Hedgehog

Hello there! My name is Sonik the Hedgehog, and like all mammals, I am warm-blooded.

I have spikes covering most of my body, which are called spines. I use them to protect myself against predators. When I'm feeling threatened, or when I'm sleeping I curl up into a tight ball causing all my spines to point outwards as a form of self-defense.

I am omnivore, but my favourite thing to eat are insects! I also eat other meats and vegetables though. In the wild, I will eat anything from insects to mice, small lizards, frogs, and even snakes.

Did you know?
When a hedgehog is born, they are covered with soft, tiny baby spines. After they are a few weeks old they shed these spines, and grow back new, stronger ones. This process is called quilling.
